City Ensures Rice Supply Remains Stable

The Jakarta Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Agency (KPKP) revealed that several modern retail outlets in Jakarta are experiencing a decline in premium rice stocks.

This step is expected to maintain affordable prices

Jakarta KPKP Agency Head, Hasudungan Sidabalok said, there are several factors triggering this condition, one of which is the still high price of Harvested Dry Grain (GKP) reaching above Rp 7,000 per kilogram.

The decline in supply is also influenced by Bulog's policies, which are currently still striving to meet the rice stock target for national needs.

Rice Stock in Jakarta is Safe, Gov Pramono Says

"The condition has resulted in a reduced distribution of premium rice to modern retail, causing market stocks to become limited," he expressed, Monday (9/8).

He explained, another factor is one of the premium rice producers, Food Station Tjipinang Jaya (FSTJ), which has not yet been able to operate due to still being under investigation by the police.

"However, distribution to the traditional markets remains maintained, so the community can still access good quality premium rice," he explained.

To anticipate shortages, the KPKP Agency distributes subsidized premium rice at a price by Rp 30,000 per five-kilogram bag.

In addition, the distribution of medium SPHP rice (Food Supply and Price Stabilization) priced at Rp 60,000 per 5-kilogram package is also ongoing in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Bulog.

"This step is expected to maintain affordable prices while ensuring the availability of staple food for the community," he hoped.

He explained, they also regularly monitor the prices and supply of strategic food commodities, both directly in the market and through the Jakarta Food Information application as part of the early warning system.

Another effort was made by involving BUMD Food to organize the 'Pangan Keliling' bazaar, which offers premium rice and other food commodities at government offices and flat complexes.

Hasudungan emphasized that the Jakarta Governor's instruction to the KPKP Agency is to ensure the availability of premium rice in the subsidized food program, as well as to strengthen quality control through pre- and post-market inspections.

"The rice stock at Perum Bulog Divre Jakarta Banten and PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya currently reaches 215,336 tons, enough to meet the needs of Jakarta residents for the next 82 days," he stated.
